VEC Customers Share is Volunteer Energy Cooperative's community giving program, funded through the small change members contribute by rounding up their monthly electric bills to the next whole dollar. While the average participant gives only about $5 per year, those contributions combine to create a significant impact across the cooperative's service area. Since its launch in 2001, the program has awarded more than $9.2 million to local organizations and community projects, supporting initiatives such as youth programs, scout troops, senior citizen groups, PTAs, civic organizations, and other efforts that strengthen the communities VEC serves.

The program is overseen by an independent volunteer board representing communities throughout the VEC service area, ensuring grant decisions remain separate from VEC employees and Board of Directors members. Eligible nonprofit and community organizations may apply for funding to support projects that provide broad public benefit, with grants typically serving as supplemental support for community-focused initiatives. Through the collective generosity of participating members, VEC Customers Share continues to embody the spirit of neighbors helping neighbors and improving quality of life across the region.
